computer system,reliable?
hello all,
a friend wants me to help them with a complete system, haveing experience as being the lifelong 24/7 help service, i told them i
will check out bestbuy, circuitcity, etc for them. they know less than nothing of computers i know a little. they want a 3 in 1 combo fax/printer/scanner, are there some that are more reliable than others? ( i have a 50$ printer thats worked fine for a year and a half) they have approx 1000-1200$ to spend (the kids want to play video games, or id steer them to a used p3, used monitor new printer for under a $500, but then that makes me the 24/7 help desk, so...) any ideas on brands of 3 in 1 printer/scanner/fax machines thanks john

I don't particularly like multifunction printers. But if you want my open on the manufacturer that's top of the line, Epson, Canon, or Brother. I'd stay away from LexMark, too many problems with them and not much tech support.
The reason I don't like multifunction printers is they become a problem if one part of the unit breaks down, you're without a printer, or scanner or fax, while it's getting repaired.

Yes, it is certainly possible to use a software to fax with rather than having a fax machine. There are many different softwares available for this function, and I've not tried any of them. An online search turned up Mightyfax, it's not free though. You can read about it, at the link below.
