Hello, I would opt for the 3200+ if its not to much more. Then you could take advantage of the ram you are buying and run at 400MHz fsb. You don't need pc3200 for the cpu you have chosen, 2700 will do unless you plan to oc a little. There isn't much difference between the 2800+ and the 3000+ Unless maybe the 3000 you are looking at has the 400MHz fsb. I think the 3000+ comes in both flavors 333fsb and 400fsb. Dual channel does have some performance advantage over single channel. Kingston is a good choice. Good luck!!!!

    hi scarecrowdr

I just done a quick online price with comparative components u have chosen...

    here is what I got

    A7N8X Deluxe SKT A NForce2 Chipset Motherboard VER: 2.0
    £80.16

    AMD Athlon XP3000+ (Barton) 333FSB 512kb L2 Cache Retail
Boxed Processor Inc Heatsink & Fan with 3year Warranty
    £93.99

    Kingston 512MB DDR PC3200 400MHz CL3 Memory Module x2
    £103.48

Arctic Cooling Copper Silent 2 Tc (supports Upto) Athlon XP3200 Includes Temperture Controller
    £7.17

Sapphire Radeon 128MB 9600XT DDR DVI-i TV-Out Lite Retail Box
    £92.98

    Maxtor 6B200P0 Diamondmax 10 200Gb 7200rpm ATA133 8mb Cache - OEM
    £64.42

for a total cost of £442.20 inc vat...

so being in UK I would most definatley look at online buying.... convenience is good but for the sake of almost £150 I can wait an extra day or 2 !!!!

granted the components I listed aren't like for like 100% but darn close eh!!! 150 squid.. gonna get you a top 'o' the range case and psu as well....

    Hi Folks, Thanks for replying...Appreciated..
    techallenged----A7N8X here is £84.42 +vat
AMD Athlon 3000 is £85.10 with heatsink n fan...
    Kingston 1GB 2x 512 twin is £114.47p
    RADEON 9600xt £114
    maxtor £89.99p
total=£466.99p thats £24.79p more plus free fitting into case...
so the advantage for saveing is in the free fitting..not bad that.
If things go wrong its just a 2min car journey to shop to rectify it..
I normally fit my own PC up but I no good doing the Processor n Heatsink n fan...so i'll let the shop do it for FREE....

    rbc1100---Thanks m8, that's what i was thinking...But I know nothing about Processors..It is £25.53 +vat extra for the 3200+ 400FSB OEM Barton..
So if the shop will do that for £20 n no vat i will go ahead...

Shop is doing a Full system for my oldest Nephew with a few more things than me...That's why we got Free Fitting!!....

Thanks for Help n Take Care All..

The 3200 Barton core is a sweet running cpu. Thats what I have in this system with 1gig of Corsair XMS running in dual channel. My main board is an Epox. Its a good running and very stable system. Next stop, 64bit. Im gonna keep this mainboard/cpu for a second system. I was lucky enough to get an unlocked 3200. I have had this oced to 2.64 GHz(220x12) on 1.71 volts but did not like the temps hovering at 50/55c. Personally, I think that was about the best I could do with out raising voltage more and running into stablity issues or killing it.

You lost me here with that price....WISH that little lot was 466.99

I will be ironing out the Final price on Monday 17th Jan...
As i'm still undecided on which processor to go with....
The Ram is 1GBT (not 512Mbt) thats 2x 512 twin, cost £114. This pushes the price up...Athlon 3200 pushes price up also....
He don't sell Athlon 2600..He don't like peeps overclocking New Systems...
The shop is "ASIS" in Walters Road, Swansea.

    Online:- www.asis.co.uk

What I do Not understand is the Speed the processors run at...Sounds like a con to me.....3200 should run 3.2 in my book, but don't...2800 should run 2.8 but don't.....

Could someone tell me the proper Ghz for these Processors at STOCK (not overclocked)....THANKS..

Its not a con, the 3200 runs at 2.2GHz, and the 2800 runs at 2.08GHz. Its just the way AMD markets the product. I have both cpu's and they run very well.

I lost you?.. ok sorry but you started the thread at £611 for the components you listed, I found similar components and priced them at £442, you then responded with a price of £466.99....

so I'll recap, with similar components you can buy what you listed for around £460 inc vat and delivery.... so your wish that that little lot was 466.99 can come true... as philgo pointed out.. check out ebuyer and you will see how cheap you can get your system for, it's where I have sourced components for a full system I built myself, and also components for upgrades for numerous other machines. Never had a bad component from them, my only "problem" with them is that sometimes my orders have been delivered in bit's 'n' bobs (ie half the order delivered one day and the rest the next day type of thing).

Incidentally, I have also priced for you the same components, but with a AMD (Newcastle) Athlon 64bit 3000+ 754pin 512kb L2 Cache Retail Boxed Processor with 3 Year Warranty and Fan Included
    and
Asus K8V-SE Deluxe S754 VIA k8t800 ATX Sound Gig lAN Firewire USB 2.0 FSB 800 Retail Box mobo for the total price of 426.81
inc Vat (not including delivery)... so If ya wanna get a cracking system for less than you've been quoted you can definately do it with online shopping...

Thanks for the addy of asis.

Thanks rbc 1100 for explaining that....Still baffled though as to why they say 3200 when its really a 2200 if it runs at 2.2Ghz...
Thats how my mind sees it...Like my mind sees the figure 2 its 2 not 2.5....But i get what ya meen....They are Coning us in my Book...Like renameing athlons to Sempron n not telling us its the Duron in disguise.......As far as I'm concerned some of these processors running at 1.2Ghz are same as my OLD Athlon T at 1.2, but costs more...CRAZY man..

techallenged---Thanks m8 for puting me correct there...Won't buy off of ebuyer or ebay anyway cause i aint got a Visa only a Switch, n if anything gos wrong I cant claim me money back....Will only use my card for goods under £100 on internet...
But I will look into it, no harm in that is there...
The ASIS shop is trying to get me to buy a Athlon 64 2800 opteron (i think thats what he called it) with a K8NE-Deluxe...
Somehow I don't think so, not quite to my likeing...He says the Athlon XPs are getting Very hard to find and going up in price, If that's the case, why are they advertised all over the internet!!
I can see me saying S*d it n waiting a few months more...lol
I think I'll stick to Gardening n Photography, they both be Easier to do...lol
    Thanks for the Help All...Appreciated..
