AVG Help Please
I installed the upgrade for AVG and it only uninstalled part of the old AVG. I now have avgse.dll and avgserv still on my system and I cannot uninstall it or delete it. I have tried in the program files & the system dll and it will not let me delete it
I get the error message, access denied, disk is full or in use. I have disabled it at startup, but when I log back on it comes right back. I went into the properties and it is checked as a read only file, I uncheck that, but it also gets re-checked somehow. Grisoft does not offer help for the free version and there is nothing in the FAQS about this fix.
Any suggestions on how to get this off my system. I have WIN XP. Thanks

Try a system restore to before you installed the new avg. If that doesn't work, go to Start>Run and type msconfig, on the Startup tab, uncheck all relating to avg. Restart your computer and boot to Safe Mode, by tapping the F8 key at initial boot. Choose Safe Mode from the menu and try deleting these files from there.

Thanks photolady. I did the misconfig thing but each time I log back on it re-checks that AVG. I will try the safe mode delete when I get home. I also did the restore to get rid of the AVG7 because it kept making my computer reboot. There is a bug with it and roxio drivers, but I cannot update the drivers for roxio for some reason. I will not use the AVG7 although I have used AVG for a couple years now. I will post back if the safe mode lets me delete. Thanks.

Have you tried the "official" AVG forum?

.
No I have not tried the forum, but thanks for the link. I will check it out.
I cannot get the machine to boot in safe mode. I now have discovered that I have a Trojan Java.Verify thing on there and have to boot in safe mode for that too. I have a firewall and had AVG up until last week, so how did this get past these? Anyone know? BTW, I have another AV instead of AVG since there is a conflict with Roxio. Thanks for the info.

I went into safe mode last night and tried to delete the avg. One file deleted, but I still have this on there: AVG Shellext Module 6.0.0.153 AVG SE.dll. I still get the eror message "Disk full or in use". Well it is in the start up menu and it will not disbale from there. I uncheck it but it re-checks itself. I looked in program files and tried to delete it, it gave the same error message. I did look in regedit, but not sure which hotkey file it is. It did not say AVG anywhere. AVG6 worked great for 2 years, I tried the upgrade to 7 and it has been a total mess and now I cannot even get AVG6 to completely uninstall. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
I did get the trojan byte verifier off with a scan in safe mode. Actually had 11 of them and guess maybe some were backups from system restore.

I would try reinstalling version 6 again then trying to let it automatically uninstall itself.
If you don't have ver6 to install I found it here..

Thanks fink. I did try to reinstall AVG6, but it would not install for some reason. I wish I had of known there were problems with AVG7 before I tried to update. I never thought about checking here first because AVG6 always worked great! I have never had part of a file to hang on like this one has. Of course it will not work due to errors and the other part of the file missing, but it still starts and tries to run.

go into control panel/admin tools/services and disable anything that has to do with AVG/grisoft then uncheck any startup commands you've already tried before and reboot. That should stop avg from trying to start.
Then you can try a number of things.. first I'd try reinstalling ver6 then if that doesn't work try installing 7 again. but make sure after trying to install 6 that the service(s) you disabled is/are still
disabled.
To disable a service double click the entry and choose disabled from the drop down box.

Thanks fink, I will try that. I know in the start up menu it will not stay unchecked, as soon as I re-boot it gets checked again. I have tried it in safe mode too and the same thing happens. It is a nasty file to deal with. I will post back after I try it.

If none of that works, you're going to have to root it out of the registry manually.
"avgse.dll" should appear in a search four or five times in both the hkey classes root and hkey local machine keys in the reg.
You will not find it under any of the "run" keys.
While you're in there, delete anything avg as well after you have first uninstalled it via windows, removed shortcuts and manually deleted any leftovers you can.
After deleting the registry references to avg, reboot to safe mode and you should be able to dump that stubborn dll.

Thanks 7. I hope to be able to work on it again in a day or two. I have been so busy at work that I have not had time to try to get it out. Thanks for the help and I will post back the results.

Sorry for the delay in posting back about this probelm. I did manage to get AVG6 to disable, but it still will not delete. I have not had the time to go into the registry yet, but that will be the next thing I try. Thanks for the help.

I have it disabled but it will not delete, no matter what I try. As long as it is not running then I guess I am ok. Thanks for the help.

Have a look through the AVG user forums to see if they have had anyone with a similar problem or perhaps instructions on how to manually uninstall AVG (which is what I would probably do... although as you say if it isn't running it's not a big problem)
