Notable postings over 20 years of Usenet

Don't remember seeing if this was posted, but I got a kick out of it and thought I'd share.

Since archiving the collective messages over 20 years of Usenet, Google has put together a "timeline" with milestone messages over that period of time, link is here.

    Includes:

First review of the new IBM personal computer , only $4500 for 64k RAM, 2 floppies and color graphics !

First menion of Microsoft's upcoming Windows product. But will it be able to compete with Apple's LISA ?

Some discussion about a theoretical problem that may occur with computer applications in the year 2000. Back in 1985.

A reference to an afforably priced terminal concentrator from a new company called Cisco Systems.

First post from Berlin after the wall came down.

Tim Berners-Lee announcing a new project to link disparate documents across the internet, called the World Wide Web (or just WWW for short.)

Linus Torvalds announcing a Unix-like bare bones operating system he created to mimic Minix, and posting the source code for anyone that would like to experiment or improve it. He called it Linux. Maybe it will catch on...

Unnamed company seeks experienced programmer to help revolutioninze the internet and e-commerce, must be willing to relocate to Seattle. Compensation will include meaninful equity. Resumes c/o Jeff Bezos.

I could go on, but you can see them for yourselves. I love these nostalgia sites.

Can't forget mentioning one last milestone, though, the very first "me, too!" post....

    Cheers !
