Laptop ?
We have an IBM thinkpad 600E. Somone tried to install XP and it will not work right. We are trying to put WIN 98 (which was originally on there) back on and we cannot get it to install. Can we do this? We tried to re-format the c drive, but does not allow. It told us to install in DOS mode, but we cannot get to DOS mode on the laptop. Can someone tell us how we can get XP off the system? Thanks.

If you want to format, you'll need a 98 startup disk or boot disk from here: http://www.bootdisk.com/. Once that is done you can install using your 98 CD. Post back with more.

Is that harddrive incased in a box? If not, you can get an enclosure and install the harddrive in a desktop computer, format it there and then install it back in the laptop, and install windows98 via cdrom drive.
Warning: Do not install win98 while the harddrive is in the desktop. Format it, then reinstall in laptop and then install win98. If you install win98 while the drive is in the desktop, you drive won't work in the laptop.

Ok, we got win98 re-installed on the laptop, however, it is not running the same as before. It will not allow us to set the pixels and the resolution is awful. Thanks for the help.

You need to reintall all the drivers , for the graphics, audio etc
Should be on a drivers disk with the system , or download them from the manufacturers website.

There is no such thing as overkill. 'Open fire' and 'is it dead?' are the only sane options when threatened.

Wow! From Florida to California (we are drowning) to Ireland (home of my father's ancestors, a bit south though) to where ever photolady hails from and we are all on the same wavelength. Me thinks we will get this troubled member up and running in no time. Saints be praised.
