Slow DNS resolution on FC3 ?
I'm running Red Hat FC3 on my laptop, performs amazingly well but one issue I have is with excessively long DNS resolution. It's hardly a deal breaker but it is irksome that a frequent delay pops up with "Looking up ..." when browsing, even when I'm browsing within the same website (ie. browsing pages in google sometimes requires a delay each time resolving google.com).
Not an issue with my net connection, because if I boot into XP the DNS resolution works fine. I also have the problem when I'm logged in at work.
From doing some digging it seems to be a common problem with FC2/3. I've seen references to an issue with IPv6 being enabled by default in the kernel (I did disable it in Firefox with no effect), can't find anything else to look at.
Before I try rebuilding my kernel to disable IPv6, just wondering if anyone has any less drastic ideas I can try first or areas I should look at ? I've experimented with Linux in the past but am a relative novice when i comes to it's various nuances, so I may be overlooking something simple. I don't mind tinkering and tweaking, but I've been successfully using this as my day to day OS now and don't want to scorch anything up too badly until I know it well enough to repair my own damage.
Any input appreciated ...!
Cheers,
KV
