    LOGO.SYS./LOGOW.SYS. question..

A "friend"? of my soninlaw downloaded a theme to his computer called "Matrix". Turns out it had "5" versions loaded. It replaced the Windoze logon screen with it's own. It causes the bootup to be waayyy slow, and he wanted to get rid of all of it and asked for my help. Went to the Windows folder and deleted both LOGO.SYS. and LOGOW.SYS. considering they may have to be replaced from disc. Checked add-remove but nothing listed there. Went to control panel>themes and deleted all 5 instances there. Did a find files for Matrix and it showed all the "theme" junk still existed, so deleted all of it. A find file search for Matrix then showed nothing left on computer.
Did a re-boot and guess what? The stupid Matrix startup screen was still there! Can anyone suggest how to git rid of this durn thing? It's really awful lookin' with a butcher shop type bloody heart hanging from something i don't even want to guess what it is..
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks..

Often what is done is to re-name the original logo.sys as logo.old (or some such, other than logo.sys) and then name some .bmp as logo.sys. Logo.sys resides at the root of your drive so one method would be to go to Windows Explorer and highlight the c:\drive and check for that since you are not sure of what it may be re-named to, and re-name the offending logo or simply delete it! Put your desired .bmp there and re-name it to logo.sys. You could just re-name/delete logo.sys and look at a black screen on boot.

Did you clear the "offense" from the Registry?

Hey, thanks olbe for the info. It will come in handy later on for sure. But, i have to admit i chickened out and installed TweakUI on his machine and used it to get rid of the splash screen.
And yes, i did clean his registry using RegCleaner after all the deletes. it boots fine now, but without any splash screen. If he wants the start-up screen later, i'll install it off the Win98 Cd.
    thanks again for your help.
