    Is Internet2 a techno-myth or what?

I first heard about it more than two years ago and there was a good deal of chatter about its potential and possibilities. You can still come across an article here or there once in a while but it seems like precious little progress has been made. So what do you think? Is it a myth or are there major corporate entities like the MPIAA and RIAA doing everything they can (like I don't know bribes) to block the way?

Looks to me like it's starting off the same way the Internet started off -- research institutions. Mass market usage didn't come until much later.

Here's an interesting read. MPAA is terrified of the potential for Internet2 (a DVD transferrable halfway around the world in 5 seconds ?!?), but they may also be looking to avoid the RIAA's missteps and embrace I2 as a new media rather than denying it's potential.

    Cheers,
