DVD Software

Buying my first DVD burner. This is totally new territory for me. I need to obtain a good DVD burning program. I expect I will mostly be burning downloaded movies and making data backups. Is Nero 6.X sufficient for this? I have been using Nero for years to burn CRD's. Any other good suggestions will be appreciated. Simplicity is my goal.

Nero is good another suggestion you might try is the freeware CDBurner XP pro

Backup using DVDshrink www.dvdshrink.org (free) and then burn with Nero ,Nero doesn't work very well to decrypt the DVD,I've never had a problem with DVDshrink.

I also have DVDX Copy Platinum 3.2.1 ( The original version). I guess that is good for copying DVD's. Would this eliminate the need for DVD Shrink?

DVDshrink is superior ,I know several who used Xcopy(not sure if Platinum) ,and they prefer DVDshrink. Heck DVDshrink is free so why not try it .

So was DVDX Copy Platinum 3.2.1 ( The original version). Hee! Hee! I am new in this area, but I can't believe any free program beats DVDX Copy Platinum 3.2.1.

DVD Shrink is very good 'free' software. It will use Nero to burn automatically if you have it installed,or you can save the rip as file(s) and use another software to burn. Word around is that the person who wrote shrink works for Ahead as a programmer(Shh,,don't tell anyone I said this ). If you do a read at the shrink site and hit the links given,you will find you can do much more than just 'shrink' a dvd using it. Keep one thing in mind however, if the dvd is encrypted,you may not be able to rip it at all...
Also, the new version of Nero's Vision Express3 will let you do a' bunch with captured video such as add chapters either automatically,or manually as you desire. worth looking into imho...

Tisk, tisk! Remember, breaking/defeating CSS protection on a DVD is ilegal (even for copying purposes).

Well since any backing-up copying of a DVD requires decrypting it first .

Most yes. But there actually are quite a few commercial dvds (less of late) that had/have no copy protection. Nonetheless, for dvds with protection while it not against the law to back them up per se, it is against the law to defeat copy protection in so doing (one of those quirky legal things).

LOL. I guess you could say there are "good" words and "bad" words.

Anyway, along with DVDShrink I would suggest having DVD Decrypter (also free). Often where one won't work the other will.

Does anyone know if DVD Shrink and DVDX Copy Platinum play nice with each other? Any conflicts installing both these programs?

Should be fine the only things causing problems Ive seen is mixing packet writing software or Roxio and any other brand.
