I've got the machine open again and I've replace the 40 conductor IDE cable with the 80. Still getting the error. From looking at the mobo manual, it looks like I have the SATA drive connected to the SATA channel. THe primary IDE cable is then connected to the DVD and CDR/RW with the DVD at the end of the cable and set as master. Then the other IDE connector goes to the 40G drive which is also jumpered as master. How many ways is this wrong?

Alright, figured it out... mostly. I now have the DVD Drive as Primary Master and second hard drive as Primary Slave on same IDE channel and its all working. Next (later this week) I'll put the CDR/RW onto the second IDE channel and see if it works.

Sounds like you have figured it out. Sometimes the optical drives get a little particular about being slave, but not always.
If life was simple then it would be no fun.
