    firmware or driver fix ?

I noticed that my dvd writer (pioneer A-03) has lost the ability to read DVD-RW's although I am not sure when it happened as I use them(RW's) only for backing up photos and short video's I shoot so they don't clog the HD.
I am wondering if reinstalling the Drivers would be of help or if this sounds more like a firmware problem. I upgraded both within the last year and a half or so.It looks like reverting is a no-go for the firmware by the way.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The lastest version of the firmware is the 2.0 version that has allready been upgraded on the drive.
I will try cleaning the drive to see if that wiill help though it works fine with DVD-R's and CD-R&RW's. Thanks
