    registry entries....

i have some registry entries i see using jv16 power tools im not sure about and i have read that one is spyware but i just want to get the professionals advice/opinion as to what these belong to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\C07ft5Y\WinXP

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cygnus Solutions\Cygwin

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Gemplus\Cryptography

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Schlumberger\Smart Cards And Terminals

and occasionaly, an entry called NoTreat shows up, even after i remove it. it isnt in there now, but i havea feeling it will come back.

any ideas as to what these are? thanx in advance

If you suspect that you have spyware then the best thing to do is to run these two removal programs first, after updating the definitions:

    Spybot S & D

    Adaware

Then unzip this program into its own permanent folder, run it and post the logfile in our Hijack This Logfile forum here:

well i run spybot, adaware, spysweeper, hijackthis regularly. i also have spyware blaster and spyware guard running as well as spybots TeaTimer. and i am clean. and i searched alittle deeper and found that the Cygwin has to do with smart cards as well as schlumberger which is obvious from the smart cards and termianls key, but i do not have any smart cards. are these 2 just regualr win xp? the main one i am curious about is the C07ft5Y\WinXP entry because i have read that it is spyware but nothing finds it including hijackthis.

From what I've been able to find out, it appears to be part of a copy protection system that is installed with certain games. Do you have Doom3 or Call of Duty by any chance? They seem to be the ones particularly implicated.

Not with Windows but with some computers (most recent HPs, for example)

And some motherboards will have headers for connecting smart card readers. If they are not disabled in the BIOS then Windows will attempt to install drivers and no doubt put entries in the Registry for them. Particularly Windows XP.
