Hi.. Download.com is a legitimate software site not known to distribute software containing viruses. It is possible something slipped by and it's also possible that it could have been a false positive. Chances are it could be either.

First thing I would do is try and online virus scan here...

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

    and here...

    http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/

to see what they can find.

It would also be a good idea to scan with Spybot s&d as well..

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Then let us know what they find, if anything.

Did the computer freezing problem start before you got the virus alert? It would probably be a good idea to clean things up by uninstalling any new programs that you've recently installed, like musicmatch and reinstalling them once things are back to normal. A reformat may not be necessary.

A virus is a more general term for many of these kinds of malicious programs whereas a trojan is a virus that tries to allow someone remotely take control of your computer by depositing a program hidden inside another program that you've downloaded.

EDIT- please do not post the same question more than once. It makes things very confusing for those trying to help. Thanks.

Download.com is fairly trustable, although some downloads contain adware, they tend to post warnings when they do.

One thing to be careful of, though, are google ads on the download site. Google ads aren't regulated by ZDNet (who runs download.com) and tend to be triggered by the download you're requesting. So if you're requesting MusicMatch, I could see where a google ad for "Download from the web for free" might show up on the site, I've seen similar ones myself.

The basic rule of thumb is that any application advertising the ability to download or copy anything off the web for free will always contain spyware / malware / trojans.

But to reference to your post, please note that this is not a forum for hackers. This forum is regulated and behavior is enforced, people are only here to help. If anyone tries to do otherwise, they are banned from participating. I'm a tech savvy person but I've relied on this board for help on several ocassions, and am grateful for it.

With that in mind, Fink's post should help you find anything lurking on your system and help you clean it.

    Hope this helps...!

    Cheers,
    KV
