Boot failure message
At initial boot I get a message saying that SMART detects an imminent failure and that I need to back up the volume and replace hard drive immediately.
Heard at a local auto-repair shop:
"I couldn't repair your brakes,
so I made your horn louder."

Which harddrive, in that I mean, what brand? Have you tried using a diagnostic disk to see if there is truly a problem with the drive?

Do what it says. When SMART gets things wrong it usually fails to alert on a failing drive, not the other way around. A SMART warning is grounds for replacement if the drive is still under warranty.

S.M.A.R.T. is unreliable, to say the least. You should download the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic utility and run that (I would run it on each of your drives).

Dodgy hard drive data cable or power supply?
