    Toshiba 2100

I have this laptop now for 1 month, should I take the battery out? I'm not using it. Is the battery like one in a digital camera, will it go bad if it's left in the laptop for a long time?

Laptop batteries are not like digital cameras/flashlights/anything else. As long as it's not powered up all the time, it won't drain the battery or cause erosion/corrosion as it's sealed.

Managed to get the System Information

It's taken a while but I got into the Laptop to get the system information. Now since this is my FIRST laptop, I want to know your opinion of what I have and what I should be getting to keep it updated:

    Modem: Internal V90
1 parallel port, 1 serial port, 1 USB port
    AMD K6- 3D processor

    Win98 4.10.2222A
    IE 5
    192 MB Ram
Available space 2170MB (is that 2 million??? -- not much is it?)
    Hard drive - 4.03 GB

My ? is can I upgrade to a bigger hard drive and install a ethernet adapater inside for DSL?

I have the basic manual for the laptop.

You have 2gb left on the harddrive. As for upgrading I need a bit more info because I'm not finding this computer on Toshiba's website. Can you boot to win98? If so, this program will tell you and me exactly what that computer is:

    http://www.lavalys.com/index.php?pag...ew=1&subpage=1

    What I need:
Specific model number; check to see if are there any letters beside the 2100. At toshiba's website I get a faster processor for their 2100 models. Although after looking over the site, I think I found that laptop. It's either a 2140 or a 2180....but the max ram either will allow is 192mb. I can find no reference to size of harddrive allowed, bigger that is. And it does accept type11 and type111 slot cards.....for your dsl.

However, without all the specs, can't say for sure on that either.

Ok those I said before weren't right. But.....I still found no reference to size of harddrive it will allow; although, it did say it was service removable.

Maximum amount of RAM is 160mb PC100...which makes no sense if there is 192 in there now.

Your reference to 2100CDT this is the one I think. It's memory max is 192mb PC100. That I believe is Sodimms. And yes, you can use PC CardBus cards. Here's where I found this information.

    thanks Lady,

I didn't see that page. I'll take it into a dealer and see what they say. I bought it at a garage sale for $200, just hope it's upgradeable. Works real fine.

    I didn't see that page
Did that mean the page wouldn't load, or you didn't find it in your earlier searching? Basically Toshiba says you have the maximum RAM. That you need either a PC Cardbus card or a Type2 or Type3 adapter card to set up your dsl. It does not say anything about how large a harddrive you can install, but it does say it's removable for service. That would indicate you might be able use a larger drive. How large would be determined by the present BIOS.

Just came from a computer show

(and bought another laptop -- stop me before I go broke!)
Anyway, nobody there had an external drive for the laptop so I will have to go internet store.

I think you meant computer store....right? I wish I could find these deals you're getting. I would love to have an older lapper just to play with, unfortunately, I live in Dell country and people here aren't apt to part with their old Dells.
