Virus KaK.hta/vbs_kakworm
Friend gave me a Micron Millennia pc.
256MB Ram
20Gig HD
Win98SE
It did not have any Antivirus Program and would not start up.
I got it started up and downloaded went to TRendMicro and ran the HOUSE call which found and cleaned the VBS_Kakworm virus.
No other virus was found.
I then downloaded AVG free Edition, updated it and ran it.
No virus was found.
Problem is:
Everytime I start or restart the pc I get a Window comes up that is called: C:windows\startmenu\programs\startupKAK.HTA
I went to Start Find and found two references to KAK and deleted them there.
I then went to the path file name above and found the one listed that comes up at startup. I also deleted it there.
But the window still comes up at start up.
The AVG web site does not have the KAK listed in their search.
IF I run AVG it does not come up with any virus called kak.
Is this window that comes up a Virus, and how do I keep it from comming up at start up every time? thanks, Joe

Since your friend did not have any AntiVirus running,
IF familiar with the process,
May be more feasible to backup any of your friends' required/desired data then wipe the HDD clean for a complete fresh install...
High odds of undetected virii, trojans... and such still floating around in there.
Cheers.

thanks for the links. followed them, printed them out and successfully removed the virus manually.
I downloaded the automatic removal tool, but the Virus must have prevented it from opening up, as every time I tried to open it from the desktop or My download files, it would not open.
Another link on the website also was not working, everytime I clicked on it, it would bring up an error telling me my browser page had to close and did I want to re open it.
Anyway, for now it seems to be deleted. Thanks, Joe
