SP2 follow up= you nedd to defrag /after

As I stated in a prvious post all is well with the SP2 install,
But you might want to Defrg your machine after install, mine was fragmented 9% after install of SP2 and i had just done a defrag prior to the install.

one other thing to consider, after you install sp2 (or ANY sp), there is a folder in your windows folder called service pack files, it is around 300 MEGS!!! there is also a ntuninstall folder. these 2 folders contain about 600 MEGS of old files from the updates you just installed. IF your system is STABLE and all is well, you can delete these folders and files. also the system restore files will be HUGE too after the updates! between the 2 folders named here, and system restore files, you can easily delete 2 GIGS of files from your hard drive! be SURE all is well BEFORE you do this though!

ke4pkb good advice I use window washer 5.5 which i have set to clean service pack files and tempwindows downloads , I will look and see if it cleaned the 2 window files you mentioned , after another week i will clear the system restore files, and create a new restore point , Thanks for the tips.

Actually I have 18 ntunistall folders in my windows files each one varies in size and each one seems to be from various updates, should all these be deleted? My service pack file is 497 megs, still there also?

MS do not recommend the deletion of the ServicePackFiles folder, though the $NTUninstall$ files can certainly be deleted safely.

while it is true that the ServicePackFiles folder is suggested NOT to be deleted... i have been doing it since windows 2000 sp1!!! count them...
windows 2000 sp1 + 2 + 3 + 4 and now windows xp sp1 + 2 and have never had 1 single problem!
just my 2 cents worth...

I intend to delete these folders tonight after I get home from work. But, I will copy them to CDR's just in case. If I ever need them I can copy and paste back to the original location.
