took the SP2 plunge seems fine so far
I installed the SP2 update via the cd from MS = 20 min install via the cd, could not imagine downloading it from the internet even with DSL.
Turned off a few things in the security center like MS firewall and auto updates, Whish I could turn the security center off completely???
AnyWho all seems to working fine on my XP pro machine and all software so far , fingers crossed & Knock on wood.

Go into the security centre and look on the left side for 'Change the way Security Centre alerts me'. You can turn off all the alerts in there.
