Cannot Open 1 or 2 Internet pages from my comp.

    Hello,

I don't even know what my problem is, and I know very little about computers. But here it is:

I can't get my computer to open either of my two favorite websites. It can open any other website. But for those two sites I get the message "The page cannot be displayed." Actually, I usually don't even get that message, it instead takes me to some Internet Optimizer page.

This problem started about a week ago out of the blue. Before the problem started, I used to run spybot search and destroy. Might have I deleted some cookie or program that these websites needed to open?

Anyway in repsone to the problem, I have downloaded AdAware and CWShredder, and ran those. It hasn't fixed the problem.

I can actually get to the main page of the site I want, and then it locks up when I click on a link within that website.

I forgot to mention that the site does work from other computers, so it is definitely my computer's problem.

Anyway, on the main page, it always says there are erros on the page. Some of those errors have been:

    vc pop opener is null
    syntax error
    callee is unavailable

Anyway, I'm at a loss. Anybody have any ideas? And please don't get too technical right away, I am not familiar with any of this stuff. Thank you so much.

Surprised SpybotS&D did not catch this.
Let us know if the removal recommendations help.
P.S. If you are able to change the title of this thread, you should, since it suggests a problem different from the one you have.

Well I guess Spybot did catch the Internet Optimizer thing because it no longer takes me to that page, and I couldn't find that program in my control panel. But the website still doesn't load. Now it takes me to an Error on Page Assistant from IE.

I have changed the title of the thread.

Error on Page Assistant from IE
Is that the actual and full error message? I am not familiar with that.
I understand that you are no longer being redirected to Internet Optimizer. Correct?
I am mystified that you cannot access these two websites but can access others. Can you tell us the addresses of these sites?
Or perhaps it is the links that are the problem. What are the URL's of those links?
Do you run a HOSTS file? Not HOSTS.sam, but just HOSTS. If yes, are these URL's in it?
Maybe Internet Optimizer left some traces. Suggest you download, install and run a scan with HiJackThis
    http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
Then do not take action, but rather post the HJT log in the HiJackThis forum on this Board, so more knowledgeable people can offer help.

you are correct, internet optimizer is no longer affecting these sites

the sites I want are message boards, on the Insiders network

    they are http://mb.theinsiders.com/bohiostate

    AND

    http://mb.theinsiders.com/bchicagocubs

I can get to every other site but those two. In each case I can get to www.bucknuts.com, and www.cubstalk.com. those are the main sites, then when i click on the message board link it will not open.

I really appreciate all your help, and I am as mystified as you. I emailed the administrator of one of those sites, and he simply replied that he thought it was a DSL problem, but I don't think that is the case, as I can reach those sites from other computers in my house. Here is my hijack this log:

    thanks again

raymont--Post your HJT log on the HiJackThis forum here on VirtualDr.
    http://discussions.virtualdr.com/for...ne=&forumid=71
That is where someone knowledgeable will help. Perhaps also refer them to this thread.
P.S. You do have some baddies on your PC, but it is a mystery to me why they restrict access to those two pages only.
Did you look for a HOSTS file?

    Thanks again for your help.

Could you explain how or where to look for a HOSTS file?

raymont--Just do a Find on [b]hosts[b], but remember is not hosts.sam that you want, but just HOSTS. If you find it, it opens with Wordpad. Any address preceded by 127.0.0.1 (or 0.0.0.0)will be blocked.
