Recording with no sound

Hi all

As some of you know, I have recently aqquired a second hand TV card, and I had some trouble getting it to work.

Now i have that ironed out. For reference, I am using an app called Chris TV Pro, which is a TV capturing app.

Fine tuned the video, colour, sounds, etc...

Then I tried to record. I chose the Windows MPEG-4 codec for video. Video is fine. However which ever audio codec I choose produces a no sound.

The setup is a coaxial connection going into the TV Card, and a pair of headhones plugged inot the TV card for sound.

I dont think the TV Card (MM100PCTV) has no onbard sound chip, I think thats why I am not getting any audio from recording. But there must be a way round this?

BTW, is MPEG-4 a DVD format?

Sorry a bit long winded, but I'm still getting to grips with this stuff myself..

As you say, TV tuner cards do not have on board sound of their own. They usually rely on a connection of some sort to the sound card (with through an internal or external connector). Do you have any other audio out type jacks/connectors on the card? You may need to just connect a line from the jack you are now using for your headphones to the line-in on your sound card.

Ah yes that makes sense...

I'll give it a go later. What I'll do is replace the headphones with the speakers so the audio signal is actually going through the PC in some way (if that makes sense)

Replacing headphones with speakers won't make any difference. They're both getting signal from an output from the computers sound card... what that signal from the computer goes or doesn't go to is irrelevant.

You need to be concerned with the audio input to the computer. As DrMDJ says the sound output from the original source needs to be patched into the computers sound card, separate from the video input. You can still have spkrs or headphones plugged into the computers sound card output and have an audio source plugged into the soundcards input. The input and the output of the sound card are totally independant of each other.

Woah, sorry guys I'm totally blown away on this...sorry...

Just to clarify:

TV card has

1)an RF connection (to which I have my aerial plugged)

2)An audio out to which I have headphones plugged in

My PC has onboard sound.

Dunno if that actually makes it any clearer but what do i do now? How do I 'patch' the two sounds together?

Ooops.. sorry I may have misread part of the question. try patching the audio output of the video capture card to the audio input of the soundcard as DrDMJ suggests and see if that works.

You would need a mini plug to mini plug cable (stereo to stereo)
