possible virus IE not working w/blackice protection

This afternoon my pc would not let me open my IE browser.
The browser IE 6.0 opened I received the message (from my firewall blackice):
iexplore.exe (navshext.dll) and when I select continue the browser goes away. I did a live update with norton and scanned my pc (as I scan it once a week) there were no viruses to be found.
It acts as though a virus is on the pc, so I went to my firewall blackice (updated version 3.6cnr) and still could not get my browser to work. I disabled blackice application protection and could get my browser to work. Any ideas?
I am running W2k Pro Version

I went to the black ice web site downloaded the uninstall and reinstalled the latest version and everything is running fine.
