NOIDE OOPS!!!
Someone gave me a Packard Bell 100mhz Pentium ,to work on,that is running its drives in MScompatability mode. I followed the instructions I found online ,but I think I messed up in that I removed the "NOIDE" not the 01 ,what problems could this cause.BTW the drives are still in MScompatability mode,Ill rename the config.sys and autoexec.bat when I get back in,they didn't provide a power cord and I have to keep borrowing it from my Comp.

Removing the NOIDE key itself was the right thing to do. If the drives are still using MS-DOS compatibility mode, then the problem could be that the wrong drivers are installed for the hard disk controllers, or perhaps a drive overlay (to allow the system to work with a drive larger than the BIOS permits) is installed.
From MS-DOS Compatibility Mode Problems with PCI IDE Controllers (Q151911)
Click Start , click Run , type regedit in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
Locate and click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\IOS
In the right pane, right-click the NOIDE value, and then click Delete .
Quit Registry Editor.

Sorry it took so,long to post back, following your links I was able to determine it was the NYB virus causing the prob.Tryed booting with a floppy and the drive wouldn't work ,so I had to swap it with the floppy out of my computer to remove the bug(ger). The HD Controller was "CMD PCI 0640 pci to IDE" and acoording to those links it has probs reinitializing after somethign like this ,so I reinstalled Windows and all is well.
Thanks,
