    SP2 Is Great!

Last night I installed SP2. The installation went very smoothly. all my programs and all hardware work just fine. Boot up time is the same as before. IE and all it's plugins work just great. I was upgraded to WMP v9 which also works great. I am very satisfied with SP2. For the first time ever, defrag now results in a solid blue block.

I think those people who are complaining about SP2 should take a better look at the condition of their computers. Computers already infected with spyware, worms, trojans, etc will not perform well with SP2. I believe any clean machine will benefit greatly from this major upgrade.

    XP Home
    P4 1.8
    512 RAM

Glad you have a good install there Rwin..

As with anything....having a clean machine is important.....protect first......then you wont have to worry about clean up later....but we cannot seem to push that issue too much.....everyone seems to think that these issues will never effect them.....

    They will.....

Please tell me what Firewall you are using.
Did you disable it at D/L?
    Did you reinstall it?

Verity, I have two NAT firewalls - one in my SpeedTouch DSL modem and one in my Linksys router. I also have Windows firewall enabled.

I installed SP2 from the CD. I did not d/l it.

I installed Windows Media Player 10 over the weekend. It is great. The ripping utility is as good or better than anything I have now.

Keep one thing in mind folks, the built-in NAT on routers and modems makes you 'look' invisible to the internet. But you 'can' be hit with a 'ping' search. These and XP's built-in firewall can stop 'incoming',but not protect from anything calling 'out'!
Imo,it's very important to get a third party firewall such as Zone Alarm for two way protection...
    Stupid question? No such thing!
