service pack 2 & disconnection

Service pack 2 is so large and I only have a dialup connection. I noticed that my first attempt failed and when I tried again it seemed to start at a previous point... Are previous downloaded files saved in a temp file and added to the next time update is accessed... If so I noticed that the continued files needed went from 75 mb to 95.20 mb...

Yes, I read somewhere (I can't find the article now) that you can stop or pause the download at any time and pick it up at a later time where you left off.
