strange extension in DUN area code entry
I am helping someone with Dial-up networking. They have Win95. They live in area code 123(example). But they are dialing into area code 567 (example). When they click on connect, the phone number shows 111-567-7890 instead of 1-567-7890. I tried checking the use area code and country code rules check box but it did not help.

Sorry , I was not clear with the number.
The number they should be dialing should be for example:
1-234-456-7890
Instead it shows:
111-234-456-7890
Also should the one be showing up in the area code box altogether or does the computer know by itself that if its outside of the local area code it adds a 1?

This is due to the dialing properties of your machine being set to a different country. Try this:
Goto Control Panel then Modems and dialing properties then check the country and the area code, also make sure there is no numbers being dialed for an outside line (unless you need it). Then... still in the control panel goto internet options > connections > settings (for your connection) > properties and check the country and number are how they should be that should do it
