.jpg files opening with an "X"

a CD comprising of various .jpg files was created with some version of Nero Enterprise Edition. User complains after a fresh-install of his Operating System that when you go to open a file (in Internet Explorer) the jpg file comes up as an 'X' (a small red x in a little box). The file sizes look decent, ranging from less than 100KB to 1+MB. Any ideas?

    Hi,

1.Verify that Show Pictures has not been turned off in Internet Explorer:
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab, and then verify that the Show Pictures check box is selected under Multimedia.
    Click OK

2.Make sure scripting, ActiveX controls, cookies, and Java applets are enabled in Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab, and then click Default Level (if it is available) for the zone which contains the Web page (for example, Internet).

If you are using Internet Explorer 6, click the Privacy tab, and then click Default (if it is available).

Your firewall software might be configured by default to block animated images and Java applets. If this is the problem, you'll need to change the firewall settings to allow these Web site options.

NEM1S1S--I agree with the suggestions from dunedin, but if they do not work, please supply more info.
Is the user trying to access the .jpg's from the CD or from the hard drive after transferring them from the CD to hard drive? What happens when user tries to open .jpg files other than those on that CD?

    none of those suggestions worked.

Welshjim >> tried launching from both CD and HDD. When you open any other .jpg file, it's fine.

    Hi,

Check the properties of the files to make sure they are not "Read only"

on the CD they are set to Read-only, when you copy a file to the HDD and unflag this option, it still dosen't work.

    Hi,

On the hard drive, when you right click and use"Open With" what error message do you get?

Does the "Read Only" stay unchecked when you apply it?

    Try renaming the file
    Try changing the extension
