Hello folks,
I am looking for software (preferrably freeware) which will allow me to:
1) send e-mails which will be deleted once they have been read by the receiver (or cannot be saved);
2) create uneditable e-mail (I know there are progs which can create supposedly uneditable html and pdf files which used to be uneditable seem now to be "open season".

Fair question.
Some clients have requested that I correspond with them through e-mail, because it's easy for them. I have not done that because I think I have learned enough of computer/internet security, so far, to know that it's not a good idea to be sending confidentiial information through e-mail. My obligation is of confidentiality to my clients, who may not know of that lack of security on the internet

There is a way to encrypt email,though I'm personally not that familiar with it. Here is a site you may want to look at:

Dear Ridgerunr,
I have used programs which encrypt email. With some (eg. PGP) the recipient also has to have the program installed. For others (eg. Ironkey) the recipient doesn't need to have the program too; essentially it makes the document into an executable which can be attached to the email, and opened by entering an assigned password. However, recipients who may not be very computer literate have found it difficult to open (even with detailed instructions and an easy password) and I have run into another problem where their virus protection will simply block receipt of an executable. In any event, once unencrypted, it could then be lost and/or edited. Back to square one.

Form A-> brief letter to client explaining potential security/confidentiality risks. They sign form acknowledging reading it.

Add signature/disclaimer to email. “This mail is intended for the recipient bla bla bla

Don't get me started on "disclaimers" . I am quite sure that I have seen some mention of "disappearing" email, and if someone can point me to it, I would be appreciative.

You do realize that even though it is deleted on the recipient's computer when the recipient reads it, there may still be copies of it residing on one or more servers through which it was routed.

People have been nailed in court with emails that they thought they had deleted.

Good point; I hadn't thought of that. But I'm not reallly concerned about Court case "evidence". I am interested only in maintaining confidentiality. That is so difficult with the internet. If folks on this board cannot give me some comfort in this regard then I guess I will continue to refuse correspondence by email. Thanks for your help.
