    WindowsXP Pro and Pest Patrol

I have an unusual problem, during updating of Pest Patrol, XP shuts down. (After 3 beeps)
This happened four times, about halfway through the update process.
This also happens during Spybot scan, no beeps.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,

Download and run CWS SmartKiller and see if that fixes it
Download is at end of the article.

Thanks Elaine, but the problem did not go away. I scanned the PC with several other utilities also.

    Hi,
I scanned the PC with several other utilities also
    Which ones?
Does this only happen with virus/spyware removal programs?

Yes, it happened with Spybot, Pest Patrol and A2, their updates would never finish, the computer shuts down somewhere around 50%. Adaware is the only one that finishes. None of them indicate any spyware or malware. Virus scan showed nothing. (Two different scans)
    Kind of unusual?

    OK,

See if this Trojan scan finds anything
    http://www.trojanscan.com/

    Then download HijackThis

    http://www.tomcoyote.com/hjt/

Make a special folder to download it to. Set it to "Scan" and then to create its "Log". This will be long, but copy all of it into Notepad and post it to be checked.

Done it all, no change. The HijackThis Log is clean, that is the first thing I checked.
    Thanks for trying to help.
