    Question File recovery

    Hello All.

I have a friend who sent me an e-mail stating:

A couple of weeks ago I was in Yahoo and all of a sudden my computer went crazy. Was able to restore from restoration CD but have lost all pics, files, all of it. I have a Gateway running ME. I would so much love to be able to bring all back that I lost and be able to do this myself. These pictures and such can never be replaced. One and onlyies. I know that you need more info from me, but if you could let me know exactly what it is you need to know so that I may try to do this would be helpful. At the time of this craziness my computer told me that Go Back, the registry, and some files were corrupt. System Restore was turned off, Needless to say I didn't reinstall Go Back, not to happy with it, but now have System Restore on. But couldn't find my files. I am in desperate need of some major help.

My question is this - since the OS was redone with the recovery CD, would that wipe all other data from the hard drive? Or, would he still be able to do a recovery of some of his files if he slaved this to a good drive /puter?

Any thoughts or info would be gratefully appreciated.

Sorry I think the files are gone.

I'm pretty sure that the Gateway restoration CDs re-partion the drive, format it and then re-install the OS and other applications.

This would thus overwrite the previous install.

    Thanks

Thanks Nix for the reply. I had kinda thought that but not having used this particular recovery cd did not know if it would overwrite everything or just the OS.

This is fully functional software that you can download, try and decide whether or not it's right for you. If you like it, you pay a nominal fee to continue using the application after the allotted trial period expires.

Recover deleted files from hard drives, floppy disks, digital cameras, USB drives, ZIP disks, compact Flash cards, smart media and Sony memory sticks. Recover Office, RAR, Hotmail, Yahoo mail, text e-mail and other file types.
The program retrieves items emptied from the Recycle Bin, items contained on formatted hard drives, and items lost due to a system crash or virus. It will even recover temporary files for documents that were never saved.

The program searches every section of your hard drive, recovering deleted files by examining the content. You can also recover partitions after formatting.

Thanks John7714 for the link and the info. I checked it out myself and it sounds like it may work - at least to see if anything is recoverable. I have sent him the link and info and await his reply.

Will advise back to let you know if he was successful.

    Thanks again,
