    DSL modem/router connection

I just set up a two computer wireless LAN. One machine running WinME is wired to the router, the other W2K machine is wireless about 100 feet away.

Everything works well, I can shut both machines down and restart and it all still works.

However, after shutting down the machines over night and restarting in the morning, the router won't respond. I can't access the router with IE. If I shut down both the modem and router and the machines and reboot the modem then router then the machines it'll work.

On all the other networks I've dealt with, the modems and routers are always left on.

What should I be checking here? Up till now I've never had any problems with this type of setup.

The modem is a Qwest issue Actiontec GT701 while the router is a Linksys wireless 11MB.

    TIA

hmmm I know this is no help, but I have an 11b linksys wireless router and have never experienced that problem.. many weekends I shut down all my machines.

only thing I can think to check is make sure the router is not trying to reset IP's too often, I have seem them set to 2 hours before. set it to 2 weeks (i think the max) and see if that has anything to do with it.

    Hi DVOM,

Also check to make sure that your routers are updated with the latest firmware.

    Thanks for the responses,

Daneph2, hadn't thought of that but since the problem is when the comps are first turned on I don't think that would be an immediate problem.

Brily, shortly after I posted I did just that and this morning the router behaved as hoped. Still, the situation leaves me a little distrustful of the router.

If this network were mine it wouldn't be as important but it's a client's network and it has got to work correctly. If it fails again I'm going to replace the router.
