    DSL modem purchase

Does anyone know of a good online store to buy a DSL gateway modem?

Myself personally I would buy a dsl modem that does not have the gateway built into it and get a separate gateway/firewall. check out www.newegg.com

Does it matter if it's online? Just make sure you buy a well renowned modem make... and bear in mind some are harder to set up than others, so read up on reviews first...

I use a little ZyXEL 630 (USB extrernal) and it's fast, easy to set up and great for a non-network installation... l'd recommend it to anyone...

There were a few on ebay recently for just $10.00 which is very good value...

Thanks for the responses. Since this is for a client who uses Qwest who couldn't get the modem to us in time, I thought I'd better go with a model that they "support".

BTW, Qwest informs me that that no other modems will work. It seems to me that any DSL modem should work.

Sure they want you to buy the modem from them. I see on there page that:

Discontinued Qwest DSL Modems – Support Only
    Qwest does not currently offer these modems to new DSL customers;
however, we will continue to provide existing customers with ongoing
    modem support.

Intel Pro/DSL 2100, 2200, 3200 Modem Information for Windows XP
    Cisco® 675
    Cisco 678

Which tells me several different DSL's will work.
Please do not use "PM" for personal help, post in forum so everybody can learn

Get QWEST's technical datasheet for their requirements and grab the PDF modem spec files off manufacturers websites in order to rank compatability for yourself...

I know l can change iSP with my ZyXEL and adapt it to differing connection protocols...

My iSP also tried to flog me a D-Link 200i Dsl modem... l did look it up first and found it wasn't even still being manufactured, l was told they couldn't support me on the ZyXEL too, but it was really absolute bull because installation and configuration was easy...

British Telcom also had a habit of one time of insisting UK DSL subscribers all bought and used the Alcatel "frog" external USB modem their CD-ROM supported... but l successfully used a PCi connexant card instead...

The choice should be yours, not theirs!
