how to view cd

I just became aware that there is interactive material on a Rolling Stones cd. There are 3- live videos, but I have no idea how to view them. A directory listing just shows the audio tracks, 1 - 14. The cd is titled, "The Rolling Stones Stripped".

How can this be viewed?

The 'Stripped' disc uses an unusual format that predates the currently used CD-Extra, from before a standard multimedia CD format was adopted. The data is stored in the pregap before the audio tracks, so the entire disc is a single session, something that isn't done anymore. The first audio track occurs at roughly 15:25 on the disc. Audio CD players skip over the data section, because they look for Index 1 of Track 1.

A program like ISObuster can extract the data section from the pregap.

I haven't tried it (I've been meaning to redo this disc as a CD-Extra), but the instructions say to run Setupexe to access the material (there doesn't seem to be a setupexe on my disc). I don't know if that's really necessary anyway, and since the disc is from the Win3.1 era, who knows what'll happen if you do. The extracted .mov's play in Quicktime. They're not the sharpest videos (the disc claims they supposedly will play on a 486-25 w/4MB running Win3.1), but they're there.

Thanks for the info. I installed isobuster and sure enough it found a track 00, where the 'additional information' is stored. However the program was unable to convert to an mpeg format. I got an error message "05/64/00".

Any further thoughts... ?

Yeah, after I read Nobobs reply I didn't think it would. I didn't know the CD was that old. Lets see what others have to say about it. One thing though is that they aren't mpegs they're .mov format.

I extracted the .mov's with isobuster and they play fine in Quicktime. They aren't .mpg's, so they won't normally play in something like Media Player, if that's what you were trying.

There's a Quicktime alternative player here... smaller and less obtrusive than the actual Apple QT bloatware program.

Isobuster is unable to "extract" track 00. I am unable to copy the raw data from the cd. Will try the alternative to Quicktime and post back.

If it can't extract the data then having the player won't help much. You won't have anything to play

ISObuster is one of the best file extractors available but perhaps someone else knows of another freebie file recovery tool to try.

You may have better success if you right-click on the ISO icon below Track 0 and choose "Extract Directory".

There is no icon below track '0'. In fact, there is no track '0'. 1st listed track is '00'. Immediately to the left of "Track 00" is a cd icon. To the left of the cd icon is a red + icon.

I don't see any option to 'Extract Directory' - anywhere....

I get a screen with 2- panes. The right pane lists all the tracks; starting with the video track, track 00 followed by the audio tracks numbered 1-14. To the left of track 00 is a red '+' ; which is actually 2- colors. The '+' looks bold face and is outlined in black. Clicking on it does nothing. If I select track 00, and right click on it, the "Extrack Track 00" drop down menu appears. When I then select any option from the drop down menu, I get the error message, 'Sector 0 couldn't be read' The resultant error message is, "05/64/00". However a new file is created. It contains 0 bytes.

The left hand pane is the source. the listing shows the cd with a normal '+' sign. When opened, it reveals "Session 1". When this is opened I get the same listing of tracks as in the right pane.

Well, I don't know what to tell you. Perhaps your disc is different from mine, or there's been some change in isobuster. On my system, the track is identified as Track 0 (single zero), below it is an ISO icon, and right-clicking on that gives me "Extract Directory". Below the ISO icon is a normal-looking Windows Explorer-style tree with the directory structure. If I select the "Media" folder, all the .mov's appear on the right side, and I can right-click on any of them and choose "Extract...".

If it's any consolation, the videos aren't very good.
