Norton Ghost problem?

Hi,

I was attempting to use Norton Ghost to restore a previous image of my computer for the first time ever.

The Ghost image that I want to restore is from March 14, 2004. When I put the restore image boot disc into the floppy drive and restart my computer I get the PC Dos screen and then the following appears:

Next, the Norton Ghost appears as if it would work, but I am afraid to go ahead because the above errors cause me to suspect that when I attempt to restore the image my CD-ROM drive might not work, in which case I would be screwed.

Are the errors above normal? Would I be able to restore an image? BTW, I viewed the restore image flash tutorial several times, and I followed the instructions exactly when creating the restore image boot disc.

I need advice from experienced Ghosters.

P.S. Just after I posted this question it occured to me that my adaptec easy cd creater version is newer than my ghost version. Could this be the problem? Am I screwed?

That's very normal -- when Ghost is creating the CD it has no way to know what sort of hardware will be installed in the machine, so it tries to load every driver it can. Unless you have like three different types of SCSI card installed, you'll get errors. The important bit is:

MSCDEX Version 2.25
Copyright (C) IBM Corp. 1986-1994. All rights reserved.
Drive D: = Driver CD1 unit 0
Drive E: = Driver CD1 unit 1

That means it's able to see your CD drives and you'll be able to restore the image. Once the image is restored, hardware detection is entirely up to Windows, and has nothing to do with the Ghost boot CD.

Yep, just to confirm what Tuttle said, those errors are quite normal, and nothing to worry about.

If you do have any problems, boot up with a Win98 or ME Startup floppy, then at the A:> prompt put the Ghost floppy in, change to the Ghost directory (cd ghost), and type "ghostpe.exe". Just another way of getting into Ghost without any error messages.
