    Geforce 4 Mx 440

Hi all, I have a Chain Tech Geforce 4 Mx 440 in a pci slot. Well my box that it came in says Geforce 4 MX 440-8x. Also Everest says its a Geforce 4 Mx 440 8x AGP. Why does my Everest and my box say 8x if it is a pci slot card?

Yep sure did. I have it in a pci slot right now. I have seen many pci slot graphics card and not once has it said 8x on the box or in any software that gives you info on your hardware.

Card manufacturers routinely make the same crads in both AGP and PCI versions. The -8X bit is part of the name of the card and I guess they just don't bother to name the PCI version differently.

As to why Everest says it's AGP 8X my guess is that Everest reads it off the SPD chip. It won't surprise me the card manufacturer uses the same SPD chip for both the AGP and PCI version cards in order to cut cost.

Thats what I thought to. Just didn't bother to leave off the 8x part.
