boot.ini add a linux drive
I have 2 hard drives in a test system.....one 80 gigger that has windows 2000 on it and a 10 gig that has linux on it....both are totally clean installs done without the other drive hooked up....can i just edit the boot.ini file to have it load the linux drive and if so how do i edit it correctly....the 2nd drive with linux will be set as secondary master so I think it should be hdd1

I'm pretty certain that you'll have to use a 3rd-party bootloader for the Linux drive. Boot.ini can only work in conjunction with ntldr and ntdetect.com, which wouldn't know what to do with the Linux boot files.
Here is a freeware boot loader that has a good reputation:
XOSL

Sarrkazztic,
If I may add some more info.
2000 Master and Linux as slave with bios to boot HD0/Master first the 2000 will boot...set boot option to boot HD1 or D and Linux will boot....Linux as master and 2000 as slave will result in the same thing...select master for 2000 and select D/HD1 and boot Linux ( when D/HD1 is selected in bios to boot first it boots up as C and Master shows as D within Windows... when HD0/Master is set to boot first it to shows as C and HD1/D shows as D within Windows) the second drive no matter if slave or placed as secondary master will always be HD1 or D.
And easy way to do it is with Partition Magic - Boot Magic - Boot Manager.
I hope this may help in some way?

Deltree...I am aware of your method.....I just thought I could add it to the 2000 boot loader.....now it has me wondering if I can go back and add it to the lilo loader I installed with linux......I will probably end up keeping the drives separate and free like they are now and just use the bios to boot.....simply because the drive that has linux on it is a test drive...I format and install different stuff all the time.....
