[RESOLVED] Does Spybot-S&D have an "Advanced" Mode?
A few weeks ago someone on TechTV, Leo Laporte (the host) I think, was talking to a caller on the show Call for Help about spyware issues and he (Leo) recommended that the caller use either SpywareBlaster or Spybot-S&D. Leo emphasized that if Spybot-S&D is used the caller should use it's "Advanced Mode." I am using Spybot and have all of the necessary updates but I can find no mention of an "Advanced" mode. I'm wondering if Leo simply misspoke in his answer to the caller or if I am somehow not finding the "Advanced" mode/configuration within Spybot? Any opinions and/or answers?
Thanks.

If your using version 1.2 then you should have to options in the START-PROGRAMS.
One will be Advanced mode.
I am using 1.3 RC5 and to get to safe mode you have to go to MODE and ADVANCED MODE.

Thanks for responding so fast! I have v1.2 but I do not understand what you mean by 2 options in START - PROGRAMS. Do you mean a hidden START / PROGRAMS tab(s)? I'm afraid that I am quite baffled.
Can you please provide a download link for v1.3 RC5? I only see v1.2 at Spybot's download page - http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download

I have vers. 1.3 (beta 6). I told it not to install desktop icon on install. Then just went to the advanced listing in programs and right clicked the 'advanced' and sent a shortcut to desktop.
Be very sure to take a close look at 'settings' to get what you want tho'...
edit: I was typing when you posted, but if you go to Start>programs>SpyBot S&D,you should have 2 listings. A regular and an 'advanced' listing. Click the 'advanced' listing for the advanced mode...

WOW - I'm not usually this thick-headed but at this point I have virtually no idea what you both are referring to.......
My turn to Edit - - I just read Ridgerunr's Edited post and now I understand. Thank you very much for your diligence.

Sorry i meant in your actual start menu where your programs all your programs are listed.
in the spybot entry there should be something like Spybot Search & Destroy and Spybot Advanced mode or something like that.
Here is the link to 1.3 RC5

On a better day I should/would have been able to figure this out by myself. Actually, there is no good reason for me NOT to have understood your original reply but for now I'll use the "I'm new to to XP" excuse. THANK YOU very much for replying once again.
BTW, what are the benefits to v1.3 RC5? I understand that it's still in beta testing so perhaps I should wait until it is "officially" released to the public at-large?

I have had zero problems & have been using the 1.3 beta's since they came out.

Does 1.3 simply check for more spy/ad-ware then 1.2? I'm assuming that there are other improvements but is that sort of the crux? Version 1.2 checks for 12,481 "problems" and I'm sure that more have been developed since v1.2 was released. Or am I missing the point entirely?
