stoping windows from prompting me to dial
whenever I use my computer I always get that prompt saying that something is trying to access the internet...
The funny thing is that I know that it is not spyware, ect. because it is my firewall, kerio, trying to access the internet, and I can't even stop the program cause kerio wont stop itself...
other then that kerio is the best free firewall I have used yet.., all I have to do is click that box that says not to try to connect till next time I log on and it wont bother me.., until next time...
It seems there should be some way to just stop all those prompts.., I dont think it is hard to click on my internet icon in my quick launch bar...
I was just thinking if I set up a fake non-dail up connection and set it as default then maybe it will stop the prompts...
thanx in advanced,
Byan
EDIT: BTW I am using XP pro

Open up internet explorer and at the top click tools..options...Click the connections tab and select to never dial a connection. Is this what you are referring to?

I think your problem is with microsoft. Microsoft made windows constantly send them information on which software is being used more often and when they are being used etc. In fact it's written in many license agreements of many microsoft products that when you install them you agree that this software will constantly send information to microsoft. Dont worry about spying and all that, it's mostly for building stats and to figure out what software people seem to like and what they dont (or so they say).
Anyway, you cant really stop those connections so your firewall will constantly alert you of these. You may be able to reduce the amount you get by changing your privacy preferences in some software.
I think this is what you wanted.

I already had never dial connection on..., it still prompts me...
I already have everything that I know doesn't need to access the internet blocked on my firewall.., but everytime I use the computer kerio wants to access the internet to check for an updated version of it's software...
I really doubt that microsoft actually does that.., thats basically what spyware is..., I looked through my firewall log and there doesn't seem to be anything suspicous about microsoft.... anyway even if they did, it says the kerio wants to access the internet not anything else...,
thanx again,
Byan

As I remember, information sent to MS is controlled by one of the Services that starts when you boot your computer. I believe that it is the Error Reporting Service.
For more information, go to this site to read about Services and what settings you should set.
Hope this helps.

I have tried sygate.., and I really didn't like it as much as kerio..,
I should try it again.., however.., when I used sygate I have a bunch of problems because ZoneAlarm didn't uninstall correctly.., I had to reinstall ZA and uninstall it..., then I kerio and liked alot better...
I have every service I dont need on already off..., or at least most of them.., I know that the error reported service is definately already off I remmember turning that one off...
Thanx again,
Byan

Hi ,if I understand you it is your firewall (Kiero) that is phoning home for updates? I don't use it, however there should be under options the ability to disable this. There certainly is in Sygate.

there doesn't seem to be.., but I suppose that there might be a option in the registery or something..., hmm..., I dont know why I didn't think of that before.., I'll have to try that when I get home...
I really dont mind kerio using the internet..., I just dont want windows to ever prompt me to dial.., there isn't any need for it.., I am not going to stop my work to let a program access the internet...
thanx again,
Byan
