It's got me stumped. Let's try it in the WinXP forum and see if you get better results.

    Hi SuperSparks n PhotoLady......
All Writeing Software, All Drivers are Updated n were All Working before SP1 n Updates.....I did have Direct CD along with EasyWrite....EasyWrite has now been deleted incase It was causeing Clashes......Direct CD is what I always Use....InCd is Rubbish in my comp n I wont entertain it...UDF Reader is also installed..Anyway, Majority of my Photos are on CDR, zip files on CDRW...CDRWs open with no probs....except the few with Tiff Files on em, they be same as CDRs...
Software used would be NERO & EZCD 5 Plat (updated)
Even my Brand New LiteOn DVDRom Drive 166S is haveing same probs in opening the Tiff Files + Jpgs....So it is Not the Drives...
ACDSee5 + PhotoShop7 is also Slow in Opening them..Use to Show All the Tiff photo thumbnails in just a few seconds..
All Drives are Working Perfect for All other Functions...
It's like as if the Thumbnail Cache is just not working or just Dissfunctional or something simular....(don't really understand the Workings of XP)Have done the Patch for Thumbnails....What about the "Read Only Files" could that have something to do with it in someway!!?..
I do have a progy that does something to Read Only Files, did try it once but could not see or really work out what it was doing, so i Uninstalled it....Could that be it....Anyone with Knowledge of this kind of thing!?....All Files on CDRs are Read Only, but that has never caused a prob before..This is Only Happening to PHOTOS on CDRs/CDRWs ok...Tiffs n Jpgs, though Jpgs do open a little faster..Jpgs use to open with a Blink of an Eye once, a Million Blinks now..LOL..Over to You for next installment....THANKS..

Ok, now "Read Only" is only there because you can't alter the files that are on the cd. You can open them on your computer and save to your hdd, but you can't save the altered/resaved back to a "Read Only" disk. Could be you have some corrupt photos on those cds that maybe perphaps weren't burned right.

If I'm understanding this right, you can open them, but opening them is just slow, right? Have you tried copying them to your hardddrive and then doing another burn using a different make cd disk?

And I'm running out of ideas why this isn't working. So to help you, I'm going to change the title of your post because people may not realize it's photos/tiffs/jpgs you're having problems with and not the drives themselves.

Hi Photolady...You may Call it whatever U Like...Won't tell ya what i've been calling it lately!!
I did all you sugested before U sugested it!lol
Yep! Showing the Tiff Thumbnails on the CDs is 10 years to sloooW..
Once thumbnails are up n showing, Opening is No Problems..
Showing of Thumbnails in ACDSee or any progy is also Slow, but once there I can Open easily.....Its Not the CDRs, They are 100% OK...It has to do with SP1 changeing something in Windows to do with the showing/opening of Thumbnails on CDRs (BUT WHAT!!)
I have Learnt Quite a Lot through the Peeps in this Forum, plus learnt a lot myself on me own, so I have gone through everything I know n am Stumped on this un...
Surprised Train n DrMDJ n Supersparks n All the others R Stumped on this too...I had this Comp going 100% for first time ever, n because of USB2.0 I had to install SP1, Worse thing I ever Did...
"I can't Help it, I Hate this SP1/SP2 Rubbish thats filling up our Hard Drives with useless bits of MBTs.....Ruddy Updates if ones Daft Enough to put em all in is over 256Mbts...Soon be a Gbt if Micro has their way!!.
I Await an Answer with Antisipated Breath.......Take Care All.
    Thanks PhotoLady...

Have you cleaned all the rubish from your computer? Things like spyware or hijackers. What's the speed of the drive you are trying to access to read your disks?

    What size are those thumbs?

Now comes a posssible kicker, are they in fact .tif and are not is some other format?

And like you any tiff's that I have on cds are usually around 10 - 12 mb in size and believe me, because of the slow speed that the cdrom and the like work at it take quite some time for them to open up.

If you can make the thumbs in jpg format. They open much faster.
But a 1 MB thumb take some time to open. No matter what format it is in.

    Just found your post .

Next time you do a clean install, install the OS, motherboard drivers, get behind a firewall, then get and install SP1 . Then the updates and whatever. Last thing install the video drivers. One may not think it would matter, but beleive me it does! But the SP1 is slipstreamed on my OS cd.

Might even want to get the M$ secutiry update cd. Boy, that sure help last week when installing 98SE. DX9 did not cause any problems using the method I outlined above.

Hi Train, I'm rather late on geting back to you, been busy..
Done this, Done That still same!.
YES they be Tiff thumbs, but these very same tiff thumbs opened perfectly n lots faster before SP1 was installed, even jpgs are a little slow in showing up....(you can't make your Tiff Photos show Jpg Thumbs)(Jpg photos have Jpg Thumbs n Tiff photos have Tiff thumbs)As I told you before in other threads, SP1 don't seam to like my Comp...Though at moment this is the only prob I have got left to Fix.....Only installed it to get my USB2.0 to work, n that only works @ one n half times..LOL
Anyway, I will be REFORMATING the Darn thing soon n NEVER EVER Installing SP1 again.....Only time I'll wana see SP is when I buy a New MotherBoard n Prosessor n that'll be SP2 by then...
Will install my 120Gbt HD inside Tower onto the PCI ATA100..It worked better that way anyway..
ALL Photos whether Tiff, Jpg, Btmp Opens in Record time n with No Probs from Hard Disks....Its that something has been altered in the Showing of Thumbnails on CDR within my DVDRom Drive, DVD-/+R Writer n CDRW/Writer.........
Have never had this prob in 6 years of useing a PC, so SP1 or an Update for SP1 has Corrupted it SomeHow!!...But How n What!!
The Help on this is Appreciated....THANKS ALL...

The trick is to install SP1 before you install your programs.
Guarranteed problems it seems if done in the reverse manner.
Also, why not slipstream to a cd r of your making. Cause I am thinking you may have gotten a bad download.

Fact is, I make sure I have all the updates before installing my video drivers. Only then do I start installing programs. Let us say, "Learned the hard way"

Hi Train, That's Exactly what I'm going to do!
I'm going to see if I can make a Slip Stream CD....I got All the Instructions printed out n ready to follow!..
All my Updated Drivers are on a Seperate HD, plus I use "WinDrivers BackUp" to be extra safe..

I did save this System useing XPs BackUp before I installed SP1..So as Practise, I am going to Reformat n Re-Install that BackUp of XP just to see if it is working.....Took me Months to get my System Working Perfectly the way I wanted it, then this SP1 fuffs it up....

So many People haveing Bad Experiences/Installs with SP1, no wonder the Other few million peeps out there Don't Want a Comp!!...Give me back my Old AMIGA...lol

Still! 'Practise Makes Perfect', so they say!.

    Thanks for the Help....Take Care..
