thanks photolady. i forgot those were called favicons. while reading the discription on that dnload, it states that "Microsoft added the custom icon feature to IE5". i am running 6.0. is that function available on 6? is there something to enable or disable in internet tools? or is a seperate dnload the only answer? or the most simple answer? thanks, jeff

jman1980--You can very definitely get Favicons using IE6. There is nothing you have enable to do so. They just come automatically (but not from all sites) when you create a Favorite. The problem is keeping the Favicons and that is explained on page 2 of the link Photolady has provided. Also on page 2 is a new free source for the program, FavOrg. The original PCMagazine link now charges.

ok, let me add this to the mix. i do recall at some time or another that i would see those favicons, not only in the address bar when surfing but also when saved in favorites, until i reboot or run purgie. now, all i see in the addy bar is the generic ie logo, no matter what site i go to, the same with what shows in favorites.

If in someway you have your computer set to delete Temporary Internet files on reboot, and/or purgie also does this, that is the reason the favicons disappear. I believe using a thirdparty software keeps them intact. Welshjim??

jman1980--Yes, any time you delete TIF you will delete the Favicons--UNLESS you have first used FavOrg or followed the manual instructions for saving Favicons on Page 2 of Photolady's link.

ok, got the favorg and they do show in my favs folder. but, not that its not an issue, just an annoyance, they do not all show in the addy bar when visiting a site that has one. (like our game server web site, it has one but will not show, my buddy that does the site, it will show on his laptop but not on his reg pc) got me.

btw, thanks for your help and time photolady and welshjim

Can't answer the one about the address bar icon not being there. I don't pay attention nor care if a certain favicon is there or not.

And you're welcome for the help. I'm glad I remembered about the thread so I could help you.

jman1980--With all due respect, it seems you have not read the instructions at the bottom of my post of April 1 on page two of the link Photolady provided. It tells you how to get the Favicon in the Address line, assuming you have saved it per FavOrg or the info in the top of that post.

Ah! Now I remember where I picked up that tip. Thanks Welshjim and photolady.
