Microsoft did not hijack your browser, spyware you allowed into your system did.
Microsoft isn't perfect, but they get blamed for far too much beyond their control, such as users downloading spyware.

I'm sorry but that's not highjacking as we use the term today. You posted you had spyware on your system so there lies your problem.
The default IE homepage for any nonOEM Windows install is www.msn.com

Hi jmwills, I'm afraid i don't know what you mean by "
"The default IE homepage for any nonOEM Windows install is www.msn.com"...What is nonOEM!!...
Any respectable Update does Not Ghost out "Use Currant,Use Default.Use Blank" so one CAN't change it....Never had this kinda Prob in 6 years of use....Who Wants or Needs the DEFAULT page, I Do Not!..If I did it would be for ntlworld not msn...
So if Ghosting out the Above so I can NOT change anything is Not Hyjacking, What on Earth is it!!....Over to U for Explanation Please.

Non OEM means you go to CompUSA or some similar place and buy a copy of XP and the default IE HOme page for that install will be www.msn.com
An OEM version, such as Dell, will set their IE HOmepage to www.dellnet.com

This Comp is Self Built, Thanks to the Peeps on here who went through the Process of HOW TO Build a PC......
XP Pro CD is My Own....n This n other things have only Happened since Install of SP1.....n If U go through other Threads n Other Forums U will see that I am Not the Only one Who has Probs because of Microsoft n SP1.......SP2 is giveing others even more Grief!.....Also Noted that this SP1 did a Few Changes by Ticking Boxes I had Unticked Previously....n Yes, I still have a lot to Learn..I Wish i was in the Minority of those who Had NO Probs with the Install of SP1....Lucky Them!....Anyway, I'll put it down to a Learning Curve, A Steep One!!.....Microsoft Know More Dirty Tricks than Anyone Else, So I'll still call it Hyjacking....LOL....
Thanks n Be Good....

I guess you're right..it' makes perfectly good business sense for a company to irritatethier customers. I don't remember reading where Microsoft promised no problems with SP1 and SP2 is still is Beta with one more release to go before RTM (Release to manufacturing).
Could it just be that you built a system with some non-compatible components. I feel your pain but don't blame the worlds problems on Bill Gates and an operating system that must be continually designed to support 60,000 programs.

All my Componants were/are Compatible..That is Until Microsoft Decided to Make us All use SP1, then they probably became Redundant....Now then...SP2...This is a different kettle of fish in it!!...Microsoft makeing Every Hardware Maker n Software Maker upgrade so that they be Compatible with SP2.....If Not WE ALL SUFFER!.......Microsoft are THUGS!! No Wonder Beginers to computers are frightened away forever the moment they get a problem.....Give us back the good old AMIGA......Smoke Signals is better than Microsoft..LOL

So if you feels like that about MS, why not use one of the many distros of Linux that are available? Many are a free download away.
Nick.
