Isearch and Adaware help please
I have isearch installed on my computer. I read another thread which announced that AdAware has a reference file which will get rid of it, however I can't update AdAware.
Currently I have "Reference file 01R217 08.09.2003 loaded"
When I check for updates, AdAware tells me that reference file is the newest and installs it ... end of story ... How can I get the newer files?
My searches are being redirected to isearch, and when a page can't be found, I get sent to isearch ...
ARGH!
Thanks for any help.

meganshay, Welcome to the forum. You need to uninstall your obsolete version of Ad-aware first then go to the link below and download the latest build 6.181, install it then update it from within the program and run it. Make sure you update it prior to running it.

Edited: I just saw your post above mine. Thank you, I'm going to go try that!
I just downloaded Hijack This, I've seen it mentioned here numerous times.
Here are my results ... I'm going crazy. Please be gentle

I appreciate your help so much, thank you!
I can't get to majorgeeks.com or www.lavasoft.de. I'm getting the "this page cannot be displayed message," occasionally I simply get redirected to isearch's search page .... hm, I think I'll have to investigate this some more!

Thought I'd update, I tried going to www.kellys-korner-xp.com (I saw that mentioned too) but it just gives me the isearch search page ...

- I downloaded and ran CWShredder - came out clean.
Where's the most likely spot the computer picked up this stupid thing? I'd like to know who in my family needs to be punished.

meganshay, One of the people (discogail is really good with these logs as are some others) who have expertise with HijackThis logs will come along and help you so don't remove anything yet. You may want to check out the thread at the link below.

I had the same problem not being able to update to the newest reference file when I had isearch on my computer. I'm pretty sure it has to do with iseach, cuz after I got rid of it I could update just fine. If after you clear out the following entries in your HijackThis scan, you still can't update to the newest ref file, I can send it to you through AIM or something. The reason you can't reach the sites you mentioned are becasue they are in the registry as Hosts. From what I can see, the following entries need to be checked off and fixed:
ALL 01- Hosts

This one is questionable, its part of the new version of AIM, but, from what I hear it is spyware. It has to do with the games in the new version of AIM. I uninstalled the new version of AIM just for this reason and reinstalled the older version. If you havn't really noticed anything though, I guess you could just leave it there.

Have Windows Explorer set to Show All Files, and delete these files in the C:\Windows folder, else you will not find them as they are Hidden.
yqycfwme.exe
BOCMVGMT.exe
CIPVFM.exe
CJTZJTA.exe
QBKU.exe
Delete these in the C:\Windows\System32 folder
toolbar.dll
kjvkaxfw.exe
zzb.exe
Delete these entire folders.
c:\program files\winfavorites
C:\Program Files\WebSavingsfromEbates

Wow, that was *amazing.* The isearch toolbar is gone, and I can finally get to sites that I was having problems with before. I'm going to update all my AdAware and Spybot now.
I couldn't find the following things, so I (obviously ) couldn't delete them. I was viewing everything in the folders - including hidden things. Maybe they were deleted by hijack this?
c:\program files\winfavorites
C:\Program Files\WebSavingsfromEbates
BOCMVGMT.exe
CIPVFM.exe
CJTZJTA.exe
QBKU.exe
toolbar.dll
kjvkaxfw.exe
I'll leave this one here for now, only because I don't have too much time right now - and AIM is my sister's "thing." If I notice anything when I'm back here in a couple weeks I'll be sure to get rid of it then.
Thank you all for your help! You have no idea how easy you made it.

Good to hear. As long as everything is going smoothly, I wouldn't worry about those files then. They were randomly generated filenames.
