    All Audio formats-Replay Fast

    Hi Guy's,

    The story is:

Setting up Win98 on a Compaq Deskpro En (P3-667-128mb) for a friend. After the standard probs of drivers, all appeared to be workig ok. upgraded directx first to DX8.1 and IE to 5.5.
I then went to install Musicmatch jukebox 8.. this is when I realised there was a problem..
Anything that is played, Audio CD's, Wav and MP3's, are playing at about 50% faster than it should. ie if the song has a play time of 45seconds, it will only take 30 seconds or less to complete..
I removed MM jukebox, upgraded mediaplayer to to v9, then applied all the updates for 98 and upgraded DX to 9, IE to 6, reinstalled mm jukebox 8. removed and reinstalled Sound drivers.

Now short of formatting and reinstalling Win98 (I was about to ghost the drive befor I noticed the problem) Has anyone encountered this problem? it dosent have to be on the same hardware or even OS.. I am looking for a possable cause.. If I need to reinstall I want to find the trap before I reinstall and avoide it.

    Thanks and Cheers

    Glenn

Have you also tried reinstalling the MS codecs?

Thanks for that, one I haven't tried..

have now got Win media playerv9, WinAmp 3, Musicmatch v8.. this is after reloading Win98 3 times, trying 3 different sets of driver install order ..
CD Audio speed only goes fast after the install of Windows media player 9.. have tried reducing audio device acceleration in the controle panel.. different drivers.. (Compaq is not so good on the supply of their drivers- nor are they good on documentaion on specific machines).. Have tried 3 different drivers for the AD1885 sound chip..

now considering upgrading the machine to Win2k (not happy with the idea.. and less impressed with upgrading it to XP- need to fit more memory.. and don't have a OEM copy here)..

    cheers

Ok - tested win2k and winxp.. for the hell of it Knoppix.. NONE of these have driver support for the Audio device.. and as such when a driver is installed (except knoppix) the Audio speed is fast..

there must be a registry hack.. but I can't decipher the filter data to have a go.. and searches return nix..

Scrap one machine.. I will buy a dell and use this thing as a *nix server.. hp/compaq sux

    cheers

BTW: out of 10 help sites I posted this question, this is one of only two where I at least recieved a reply in 3 or more days.. at one site 250 reads.. no replies!!.. just bothering to answer helps heaps.. So fink thanks.. this is a genuine thanks for you reply.. I realise for many here that this question is out of their scope.. But if you don't ask you won't get the answer..

    No problem..

Perhaps part of the reason you got such little response is that you'd already tried most of the things that would have typically been suggested.

What happened when jukebox wasn't installed?

Did a clean install with out MM jukebox, same prob.. Even in Win2k..

OH: Fixed.. Borrowed a C-Media based card from My Server-- don't need sound on a server. BEautiful sound.. at normal speed.. ahhhhhhhh should hhave done this a week ago....

WMP9 and Musicmatch jukebox 8 purrfect

feel like I used a hammer to fix it.. GRRR Drivers for some hardware..

i think the hint was.. I had all the information.. I just had to giveup on the software path.. ..

Now next project: Hey guys just got a hold of a cheep Nuke powerstation.. Any one one to help in modding it to 240V Ac 50Hz operation.. should just be a simple programming operation...... (j/k)

    Cheers

We've got some of those around Toronto that may be going up for sale in the not too distant future. Cost? There are some residents who think the gov't should pay someone to take them away. Got a big boat?
