Unable to surf or get e-mails
Hi, I can connect to the net using my Sympatico dial-up but I can't surf or get my e-mail. Internet Explorer just keeps coming up "Unable to Display Page" and Outlook Express just says it can't find my mail servers. I've been on the phone with Sympatico for two days and they can't seem to fix it. I've uninstalled IE and OE and reinstalled, I've pinged and pinged again, I've run the IE repair tool, I've deleted the temp files and cookies.
It all started after my printer froze up and I had to restart my computer since then nothing.

lonewolf, what OS are you running? I would run a Virus Scan then Adaware/Spybot then Scan Disk and Defrag. There is a lot of Viruses going around someone try to zap me the other day I got rid of it BUT my puter started to act fun so I did what I just told you and things are well. Post back after that and let us know how things are.
Take Care

It sounds like you may have an infected computer, and since you can't download AV updates you could have a hard time cleaning out the infection. You didn't say what AV program your using, but you still might be able to download an update to a friends computer, burn it to disk and update that way. I'm suspecting Netsky virus or a variant is the culprit. As a last resort, you can do a fresh install of Windows 98, be sure to format first as a reinstall over the top of your current installation will not clear the virus. But try all other means to solve your problem first. I Hope these suggestions help.

Then once you have this machine up and running again, use something such as AVG. It's free.
Have you tried any of the suggestions yet?
Hope this helps.

I have to go over to a friends and download the LSPFix file. I won't ba able to reply back for a day or so, for obvious reasons.
Thanks again I'll let you know how it goes.

Look in your Windows folder for a file named HOSTS . That is the complete name, not Hosts.Sam or Lmhost.Sam. Rename or delete the HOSTS file.
