    Firefox vs. Virtualdr?

I had mentioned this in a previous post regarding Firebird, and find the same problem with Firefox...

Frequently, when I post a reply or thread on Virtualdr, for some reason or another the board "forgets" my history. The icons that indicate new threads since I last visited disappear, although I'm still logged in with my username. Not a huge issue, but I find the highlighted icons useful since I can't always visit the forum regularly.

I'm sure it's got something to do with cookies, but never happened with IE.

Having said that, I still think Firefox is a great browser and it's my primary one. I just find it odd that this problem only occurs on Virtualdr, I don't seem to notice it on other boards using the same software.

    Anyone else notice this?

    Just wondering...

Do you mean the yellow envelopes?

Sometimes ive noticed such issues but im not sure if it was firefox.

Not quite the same issue but...

sometimes when im viewing the forum and i read new post/threads, then i go to the new topics i see that the ones i have read are marked as read, which they should be. but if i close the browser and then reload it sometimes all thread will show as 'new'.

its no biggy but quite annoying in a way.

Been thinking about posting this myself. I use IE6sp1 and have noticed within the last week or two. when i first come here, all the new posts(ones with the yellow down arrow next to the post) are showing. But, if i go into a post and i'm there for awhile reading and perhaps replying, when i come out,the new reply boxes are gone. Not from just the forum i'm in,but all other forums as well! And I agree that it's quite annoying.

That has happened to me so often that I've made a habit of bookmarking the "View New Posts" page as soon as I visit the site so that I can get it back when it disappears on me.

I use Firebird as well, but I had the same issue with this and other forums when using IE as well. Not all the time, and really not all that often. I agree -- it really is annoying.

I like the idea of loading and bookmarking the "view all new posts" page.

Think I pinpointed the problem down a' bit more. All was well when i came here today with new posts showing. Whether i went in and read a thread or not. 'Then',,I replied to a thread with a post that took a little while. When I submitted and came back out, all the new post symbols were gone in 'all' forums. Hmm,,,

Well, if nothing else at least I know I'm not alone...!

I've decided to add virtualdr.com to my exceptions list and always allow cookies, in case privacy settings were interfering. I'm not sure that's the case, though, since the problem is inconsistent. I always assumed that since it can use cookies to remember my login, it should be able to use cookies to remember my last viewing date. But at this point, there's nothing to lose so I'll see what happens...

    Cheers,

Not related to the cookie issue but over the last few days, I've been having issues with Netscape or Firefox while here at VDr too.

Specifically (I use a 98SE laptop with the Synaptics touchpad), my cursor seems to get bogged down while browsing here. Most of my surfing on the web is hobby bulletin board related and any other board or site that I go to seems to be fine...except here.

One of the main things I use is the side of the touchpad to scroll up and down. Every other site responds virtually instantly to my scrolling. But here, there is a delay and over the last few days, the t-pad driver will sometimes even crash. At first, since I had just tried Firefox, I blamed it. I removed it. Then, on the chance that it was either Netscape or the t-pad driver, I removed and installed both of them again. No change...

Bottom line is that I wonder if there is something here that isn't rendering correctly as the pages load? While the cookie and cursor things wouldn't seem to be related, it's funny that they all happen just here. (I don't know enough about this stuff to even know what to ask.) Anyway, just thought I'd pass this along...

    D'oh! It just happened again.

I noticed that it happened right after I went in to reply to a post, and then backed out without submitting. I've done that in the past (bad habit, I tend to hit reply without reading the whole post, and then read the post when I preview the reply and see that a point has already been answered etc.), and am now wondering if maybe that's the trigger?

    Time to experiment....

If your using any sort of ad blocking software, try turning it off.

Surprisingly, I'm ethically opposed to (non-popup) adblocking software so I don't have any running, but Firefox seems to come preconfigured to block cookies from a number of ad-tracking sites, I hope that's not the problem.

Just happened again with a reply I posted a few minutes ago, so for now I guess I'll just have to get used to it...

    Cheers,

    KV
