    Grrrr......Internet!!!

Can someone explain why my browser will just shut down while I am on a web site? It does this quiet frequently and it does not matter which web site I am on. I have scanned for viruses, trojans, etc and found nothing. We have Win98, Norton Firewall, AVG Free Edition, and run Adaware. All are updated as required. I can be browsing around looking at things or searching and it just closes out and goes back to the desk top. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What browser are you using? IE or Netscape or Mozilla or Opera, etc.... If IE, what version? When it closes down, do you get an error message? Can you give a few more details?

Oh sorry, we use IE6. No error message just goes right back to the desk top almost as if we closed the web site. Has been doing this for several weeks now and cannot think of anything we added (prior to it starting this) that would make it act weird and close out like that.

I just tried to repair and actually it does not give me a repair option. It says Internet Explorer Q832894. I clicked it and it wanted to remove. Ihave downloaded the IE6 again and it says the same thing. So, now what? Also, my mouse/coursor is real jerky acting most of the time since this has been doing this.

Internet Explorer Q832894 isnt IE, it's an update from what I was told. You need to look for microsoft internet explorer in add/remove programs then go to uninstall then repair. Or you can go to start/programs/accessories/systemtools/system information
then go to internet explorer repair tool.

You said in your original post you ran Ad-Aware but I gotta' ask...did you update it before running it? If you didn't, update it and then run it again.

I suggest you also download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot. I use both Ad-Aware and Spybot weekly since each tends to find things the other misses.

Then, to be doubly sure, download and run CWShredder.

    Thanks Guys.

There is not an IE in the add remove only the one with the numbers beside it. If what I downloaded is only an update, then where do I get the IE6? I could have sworn it said the IE6 when I downloaded it.

Yes, Adaware was updated along with the other updates for AVG and Nortons Firewall. I update on a regular basis just to be sure. I think when I ran Spybot before, it would cause a freeze or there was some problem with it, but I am willing to try again when I get home. Thanks for the help.

Yep that is where I got it from and the only thing showing in the add remove menu is that one IE Q file.

If you can't repair it, you might want to uninstall your IE and reinstall it. You can make sure that you get rid of all remants of ie by using the IEradicator and you can get it here:
    IEradicator

    or see:

Ok the one reason it may not be in add/remove is if you deleted the uninstall (or backup) information for the previous version of Internet Explorer. When you install an OS say XP for example which comes with IE6 it wouldn't be listed in add/remove. Until you install a newer version one wouldn't be listed. Did you try to go to start/program files/accessories/system tools/ system information to get to the repair tool?

Ok, I came home and looked again thru all the add/remove programs and found it. It was titled "sp and internet tools" Clicked on itto see what it was and I did the repair. Now it is titled Microsoft Internet Explorer SP61 and internet tools. So hopefully it had an error and it is now repaired. I guess I overlooked it because I was looking for Microsoft Internet Explorer or IE. I also had a lot pf dead links in there that no longer had files, so I cleaned those up too while I was at it.

Thanks for all the help and if the problem of closeingout is not solved, I will be back with additional questions.
