HIMEM.SYS (missing)
When I shut down my computer and try to restart this is the message I get: EMM386 has detected an error #1 in an application at memory address F683:31D4. To mimimize the chance of data loss, EMM386 has halted your computer.
When I ran scandisk, it told me it would not scan because the HIMEM.sys file was missing from my windows directory. I checked, and I see a Himem.sys file in the windows directory.
At any rate, I can't start my computer in anything but "safe" mode, and I don't know anything about computers except how to bling them up, I guess. lol Can anyone help? I'd appreciate it. I'm on a friends computer as a guest, but I will check my email daily. Thanks in advance for any assistance you have to offer.
Sincerely,
JusBKozz a.k.a. Margie Eileen

See if this helps
Missing Himem.sys
If the line DOS=HIGH,UMB,NOAUTO is present in the config.sys file it might cause both problems
Have you just reinstalled windoes? A little ore info about the background would be helpful
