i live in a house where 3 year olds think its fun to smear peanut butter on $300 office xp disks and then take it to thedog and have him lick it clean, anywho...
i was wondering if anyone knows how to copy a microsoft office xp disk so the disk will work, ive tried several different procedures but none worked and i want to have a backup of this disk for obvious reasons

p.s. - please dont post "THIS IS ILLIGAL!!!" or any other like that, ive heard it before and in my opinion i feel i have a RIGHT to backup my disk

You can DISK to DISK almost anything providing you have the right to. You said you've tried several methods so I'll assume you failed. Why did it fail, what happend whne you tried to copy?

There's a piece of software called BlindWrite that will do it:

It will copy a disc bit-by-bit, ignoring anything referring to copy protection. It takes a long time, but it works.

And you're right, it's not illegal to copy your own disc, but a mod will more than likely delete this anyway

by several methods i mean i have attempted to find the type of copyright protection by using some utilities and burn it with the program "alcohol 120%" and failed in that sence... i have also used that blindwrite but the copied disk tells me that the setup is already in progress when i try to set it up... once again failure

Have you tried copying to the hard drive? Then burn from there?

I have the XP office set here, and as I always do with originals, I burnt a backup set. I'm a little confused with all of this as I'm certain that even in the caffine altered state in which I function in most days.. I don't remember a whammy in the disk2disk.

Is there something I missed and slept through ?

Did Click&Burn PRO tell me a fib when it said 100% complete?

A lot of programs will not do that. Seems you have one that will. Thus you got lucky.

I also make a backup copy of all my apps, and I did so with OfficeXP using Nero without any problems at all. There isn't any copy protection with MS Office, and if you wish to you can slipstream the Service Packs onto Office and burn it to CDR:

SuperSparks is spot on, there is no copy protection on that CD, so the problem must be with your burning software, hardware or the technique you're using... personally I'd do a slipstreamed CD like mentioned above and kill 2 tasks in one.

If u'r still having difficulties then maybe try a different CD reader and/or check for a damaged CD. other than that there shouldn't be any issues, MS deliberately allow you to copy and update your CD's so it's certainly not them making it hard for you.

ok, thanks peoples... ill try it one one of my old old old old pcs i got in the basement that i got around the time the 1X cd burner was around! this will be fun!!! (this forum doesnt have a sarcasm button.... DOH!)
