phone line network
i have two computersthat each have a 56.k modem attached to them but only one has an ethernet card and i need to know the easiest way to network theses two computers through a single phone line (a line not carrying a dial tone) to transfer files between them.
any responese is apreciated and thanks in advance

Is possible to cross them over with the modems but it will be very slow. It depends what kind of network you will need.If you want to share an internet connection, definently, you will need to buy one more NIC but if you want only to share files a cross-over cable (USB or whatever you like) it will be ok.

If you mean networking the two dialup modems you have to trick the modems into thinking they're connected to a real phone line. That means building (or buying?) a device to connect the two PC's. It would be cheaper and much easier to spend ten dollars and buy a generic NIC and set up a much better network that way.

Or is that what you mean? You'd still have to buy two cards, but they connect right to your phone line, instead of cabling ethernet through. The cool thing is, I believe it uses the second pair of wire on your phone system (since phone lines are wired with two pair, but your phone only uses one of those pair), so you can plug everything into your existing phone jacks, without interfering your normal phone connections.
