Gforce 3 Ti 200. Drivers update??

Recently my system has become unstable, I found out that I need to update Gforce 3 Ti 200 drivers.
I downloaded 53.03_winxp2k_english_whql.exe. and saved it.

I was told”Once the file is downloaded go into Control Panel and locate Add/Remove Programs. The graphics card drivers will be shown there. Highlight the item and select remove. Once removed you will need to restart your PC. When your system restarts, locate the downloaded display driver and double click the icon. It should take you through a short wizard to install the driver and you will then need to restart your PC again. The new display drivers will then be loaded and you may need to change you screen resolution and colour settings to your personal preference.”

But the problem is after removal of the old drivers when I reboot my PC it automatically loads back the old drivers.

What am I doing wrong please?

Have you tried just installing the new drivers over the old ones? I have an older MX200 that I recently installed that same driver for and I didn't remove the old one, I just installed the new one over it. If that doesn't work, try after removing the old drivers, setting your display to standard vga, then installing the new drivers through device manager, update driver.

It is probably b/c the driver that you have been using is the native nVidia driver that comes with XP. When you removed it from "Add/Remove" you simply told XP not to use it. You didn't really "remove" it from the system.

However, XP will find and use the native driver (if it is available) for any device when there is not a different driver associated with a device. How else can Windows boot up without any video driver? It must use one. So when it restart, it detects the grahic card with not a particular driver associated with it and so Windows loads the native driver which is the one you have been using.

Long long time ago updating Detonator drivers without first removing the old one was a big problem. In those days (before XP) you would tell Windows to use the generic VGA driver after you uninstall the nVidia driver. Windows would then restart with the low-end, basic, generic display driver. You would then install the new nVidia driver that way. With XP I don't know how to set it to use generic VGA driver if it can be done at all.

But I think the newer nVidia drivers do not exhibit this problem so I won't worry too much about removing the old driver first. Just double click on the .exe to install the new driver. (Create a Restore Point 1st if it will make you feel more secure.) I have update my nVidia driver this way many times without any problem.

    OK, try this:

After removing the old nVidia driver in "Add/Remove" do NOT restart yet.
Go to Device Manager (right click on "My Compter" > "Properties" > Harware tab); brown to "Display Adaptors" and delete "nVidia ..." there.
    Now restart.
This procedure may allow XP to boot using the generic VGA driver.
