Finally got win 2000 installed.
Forgot the old motherboard. Bought a new combo last week from Fry's Electronics for $69 incl the processor.
I also bought new DDR 256MB memory.
Put the mother board into a used ATX case.
Hooked it all up, turned it on, entered cmos setup to recognize the hard drive,
Set to boot from CDRom drive first, saved and exited.
Win 2k install started and successfully installed without a hitch.
Must have been something wrong on the other older motherboard\, or too old to work with win2000.
Hurray for success. Guess I will get another new motherboard and try my luck at XP. thanks for everyones help. Joe
